Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) on Tuesday arrested a father and his son reportedly for killing a 9-year-old schoolgirl after rape at Babuganj upazila in Barishal district in May 3.
The arrested are Sultan Hawlader, 50, and his son Md Tawhid Hawlader, 30, both residents of Madarshi Hospital Road in Babuganj upazila Sadar.

Meanwhile, the victim Tamanna Akter was the niece of the accused Sultan and cousin of another accused Tawhid. She was a third grader of Agarpur Government Primary School and a resident of the area.

Quoting the case statment, RAB said Tamanna went to visit her uncle’s house on May 2. Later in the morning of May 3, Tawhid forcibly violated the girl when he found the girl alone in the house.

Hearing the victim’s scream, the family members along with Sultan Hawlader rushed there and rescued the girl. After a while, around 12pm on the same day, Sultan along with Tawhid strangled the victim to death. They then, hanged the body with the stairs of their house to hide the killing.

Later, the victim’s mother lodged a case with Ujirpur Model Police Station on May 8.

Following the case, a team of the elite force, combined with RAB-8 and RAB-10, conducted a drive in Chunaghat Bazaar under Faridpur Kotwali Police Station and arrested the duo, said RAB source.

They were handed over to Ujirpur Police Station and legal actions will be taken in this regard, added the RAB source.
