The government on Sunday filed a petition with the Appellate Division of the Supreme Court seeking a stay on the High Court directive that asked the state to restore the 30% quota for the children and grandchildren of freedom fighters in the civil service.
Assistant Attorney General M Saiful Alam confirmed the latest development.
On 5 June, the High Court bench of Justice KM Kamrul Kader and Justice Khizir Hayat issued the directive after declaring illegal a part of the government circular issued on 4 October 2018 abolishing freedom fighters quota in the public service.
The court pronounced the verdict after disposing of a writ petition filed by children of freedom fighters challenging the circular.
