At least 262 people were killed and 543 others were injured in 251 road accidents in 13 days during the last Eid-ul-Azha holidays, said a report of the Road Safety Foundation on Monday.
Comparing with the journeys during Eid-ul-Azha in 2023, this year, the numbers of deaths in road accidents involving motorcycles increased by 13.31per cent.
In the motorcycle related accidents the highest, 104 people, were killed while 49 pedestrians and 28 transport workers were also killed.
Between June 11 and 23, the loss of the human resources in the accidents cost around Tk 998.55 crore, the report also showed.
The report was prepared on the basis of news that published in different media, said a press release issued by the foundation.
Muslims in Bangladesh celebrated Eid-ul-Azha on June 17.
The three-day public holiday on the occasion of Eid started on June 16 and ended on June 18.
Rush of Eid travellers started on June 13 as the Eid vacation was followed by two-day weekend of June 14-15.
