A murder suspect was killed in a ‘gunfight’ between two gangs of alleged criminals at village Hashimpur in Sadar uapzila on early Thursday.
The deceased was jewel, 29, of the village. He was the prime accused in Ansar member Hossain Ali killing case, said the police sources.
Additional superintendent of Jashore police Touhidul Islam said that a police team went to the spot at around 3:00am after learning that two gangs of criminals were exchanging fire there.
Jewel, who had sustained bullet wounds, was arrested at the spot while others managed to flee, he said.
He was taken to Jashore General Hospital where doctors pronounced him dead.
A pistol, a shutter gun and 12 bullets were recovered from the spot.
On November 30, 2019, Ansar member Hossain Ali was shot dead by miscreants at Hashimpur Bazar. The police arrested seven people on December 14 over the murder.
