The education ministry postponed the Higher Secondary Certificate and equivalent examinations in Fulgazi and Porshuram upazilas in Feni for Tuesday due to the worsening flood situation.

The exams started on June 30 across the country except in the Sylhet division.

The education ministry earlier postponed the examinations in the division till July 8 following the worsening flood situation.

Professor Tapan Kumar Sarkar, chief of the inter-education board coordination committee, said that the decision of postponing the exams for the students under the Cumilla education board, madrassah board and technical board in Fulgazi and Porshuram upazilas was taken due to flood.

Next decision for these Upazilas would be taken after considering the situation, he said.

He added that the routine of the deferred examinations would be published later.

As per earlier schefule, the theoretical part of the ongoing exams were to be held between June 30 and August 11 and the practical part of the exams were to be held in August 12-21

The north-eastern Sylhet division is going to grapple with yet another spell of flash flood.

Earlier on May 28, more than 10 lakh people in the Sylhet district, including the city, were marooned by the first flash flood of the current monsoon.

The second flash flood was triggered only hours before Eid-ul-Azha by heavy downpours and onrush of water from the upstream Meghalaya and Assam states in India in the early hours of June 17, marooning more than 25 lakh people in four districts of the Sylhet division and 30 wards out of 42 in the Sylhet City Corporation.
