The local administration on Saturday seized a duplex house owned by former inspector general of police Benazir Ahmed and his family, at about 3:30pm in Rupganj of Narayanganj.

A team consisting of the officials of Narayanganj District Administration and District Anti-Corruption Commission went there and seized the house in Anand Housing Society area of Rupganj following a court order.

ACC deputy director [public relations] Aktarul Islam confirmed this.

Narayanganj deputy commissioner Mohammad Mahmudul Haque and officials of local Rupganj upazila administration and ACC were present at that time.

Now, the seized house will be under control of Narayanganj DC office until further order of the court.

A Dhaka court on June 12 ordered the confiscation of the house along with some other properties of Benazir and his family following ACC petition.

The duplex house on a 24-katha plot in Dakkhin Bagh area has the Demra-Ichhapur road on one side and the artificial lake of the nearby Ananda Housing Society on the other.

It was built in 2022 in Rupganj where Benazir used to come when he was the inspector general of police.

Earlier, the local administrations also took over a resort in Gopalganj, four flats in Gulshan in the capital, and a 25-acre garden house in Bandarban owned by Benazir and his family after being appointed as receivers following court orders.

The ACC, based on a media report, decided on April 18 to investigate allegations of amassing illegal wealth by Benazir and his family.

However, Benazir and his family members left the country in May amid the graft allegations.
