In a world where curiosity knows no bounds, Muhammad Shawon Mahmud, a Jahangirnagar University student founded BigyanPriyo, a science-based online educational platform, to spread scientific knowledge among people.
Fuelled by his inquisitiveness and a deep-seated desire to make science more accessible to the public, Shawon set a unique example by launching BigyanPriyo.
His journey began with a simple idea to make science understandable and engaging for everyone. He had so many unanswered questions during his university days, but there were very few sources to get the right answers. He realised that it is necessary to create a platform where people can freely discuss and explore scientific concepts in the Bangla language. Thus, BigyanPriyo was born.
“Not clearing small curiosities can lead to burying big inventions.”, said Shawon Mahmud.
After its inception, BigyanPriyo quickly became a trustworthy platform for the Bangla community for open science discussion and knowledge-sharing.
The platform’s Facebook group ‘Bigyan Ki Bole?’ which was previously known as ‘BigyanPriyo Poribar’ attracted nearly 1 lakh members in just six months, and by 2022, that figure rose to nearly 1 million.
In 2020, Shawon further expanded the activities of BigyanPriyo and started creating fascinating and engaging video documentaries for social media platforms that focused on science, technology, engineering, and mathematics education. These videos garnered appreciation from approximately 30 million internet users.
Shawon also took a stand against pseudoscience and superstition, debunking myths and false beliefs through online research and counselling. His efforts earned him national recognition, including the prestigious “Joy Bangla Youth Award” in 2022.
