Dhaka Metropolitan Commissioner Habibur Rahman has warned of stern action if quota reform protesters do not follow the court order.

He said this while briefing reporters at 11:30am Monday about the security measures DMP took on the holy Ashura celebration and Tazia procession at Hossaini Dalan Imambara in the capital.

“The ongoing quota movement is a matter of court. Every citizen should respect the court order and we are obliged to abide by it,” he said.

The DMP Commissioner said that the Appellate Division of the Supreme Court had given a one-month stay on the verdict given by the High Court on the quota system. Quota reform is entirely a court matter. So it is the absolute duty of every citizen to respect and obey the order that the court gives. Everyone is bound to obey the rules of the court.

On July 10, the Supreme Court issued a status quo on the High Court judgement that declared illegal a 2018 government circular abolishing the quota system in government jobs.
