Agitating students of Dhaka University and other educational institutions on Monday afternoon again took to the streets demanding that prime minister Sheikh Hasina should withdraw her remarks.
The protesting students of different educational institutions, including DU, Jagannath University, Dhaka College, Bangladesh Dhaka Medical College, Begum Badrunnessa Government Girls’ College and Eden College, gathered at the base of anti-terrorism Raju Memorial Sculpture on Monday afternoon.
Thousands of university students across Bangladesh took to the streets on Sunday night, primarily on their campuses, in protest at remarks made by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.
The protests were sparked by comments made by Prime Minister Hasina during a press conference at her official residence, Ganabhaban, where she responded to questions regarding the anti-quota protests on Sunday.
She questioned, ‘Why is there so much anger against the liberation war and freedom fighters? Will the grandchildren of freedom fighters not receive quotas? Will Razakars’ grandchildren get them? My question is to the people of the country.’
The protesting students are demanding that the prime minister should withdraw her remark.
While addressing the protest rally, Eden College student Sumaiya Shaina said that none could confine them as they knew how to break lock and fight against attackers.
