The much-awaited Dhaka South and North City Corporations elections began on Saturday.
The Awami League (AL) and BNP mayoral candidates cast their votes at their respective polling centres at 8 am.
AL-backed mayoral candidate in Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) Barrister Sheikh Fazle Noor Taposh cast his vote at the polling centre of Dhanmondi Kamrunnesa Girls School in the capital in the morning today.
AL mayoral candidate in the Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) Md Atiqul Islam exercised his franchise at Nawab Habibullah Model School and College in city’s Uttara area at 8 am, sources added.
Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) mayoral candidate in DSCC Ishraque Hossain and its mayoral candidate for DNCC polls Tabith Awal cast their respective votes in Shaheed Shahjahan Government Primary School at Gopibagh and Manarat Dhaka International School and College in Gulshan respectively at 8 am, media report says.
The elections to Dhaka north and south city corporations will continue till 4:00 pm without any break.
This time, DNCC and DSCC have 13 mayoral candidates and around 7,500 councilor candidates.
DNCC has 1,318 polling centers for around 30.10 lakh voters. In DSCC, there are 1,150 polling centers for around 24.53 lakh voters. The much-awaited Dhaka South and North City Corporations elections began on Saturday.
