The main opposition Bangladesh Nationalist Party on Tuesday alleged that the Awami League government was destroying the evidences of killings and attacks during the countrywide students’ protests demanding the reformation of quota system in the government job.

‘To take revenge on the people who protested against anti-people government, the authority now slapped curfew and deployed military putting the people of the country on harassments,’ the BNP secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir said in a statement.

Demanding the immediate arrest of the people who involved in the killings of  unarmed protestors, Fakhrul said that instead of taking actions against criminals, the government was now arresting and carrying out attacks on the BNP leaders and activist.

He also said that arresting of the party leaders and carrying out attacks on its standing committee member, Gayeswar Chandra Roy, proven that the base of the government became shaking.

‘To hide the brutality from the global community,  the government in a planned way shut internet down,’ he said, mentioning that such brutality had not even occurred during the British colonial rule, then Pakistan rule and the autocratic ruler HM Ershad period.

‘The statements of government officials over the students’ protests are being delivered in such a manner that they are carrying posts of the Awami League. The AL’s role in preventing protest is unprecedented and brutal,’ he said.

Fakhrul also rejected the remark of the prime minister Sheikh Hasina on Monday at a meeting with the people of business community blaming the BNP for violence in street agitation of students.

‘Her [Hasina] statement is baseless, imaginary and contradicting with the ideology of the BNP,’ he said, adding that until this ‘fascist’ Awami League government’s fall would not be ensured, the rule of law in all stages would not be possible.

Demanding the resignation of the government, Fakhrul said that the AL was totally responsible for turning the peaceful students’ protests into violent one.

The only solution to resolve this crisis is holding an acceptable election under an impartial administration with the immediate resignation of the Sheikh Hasina’s government, he said.

He also urged the people as well as the democracy loving parties of the country to ensure the fall of Awami League in a united manner.
