A group of aggrieved Bangladesh Bank officials staged a demonstration in front of the office premises on Wednesday, forcing three deputy governors to leave.
Deputy governor Sayedur Rahman resigned to the human resources department, while deputy governors Khorshed Alam and Habibur Rahman left the office.
Sayedur Rahman and Masud Biswas, the head of the Bangladesh Financial Intelligence Unit, were assaulted.
Governor Abdur Rouf Talukder was not present at the office.
This incident was unprecedented in the history of Bangladesh Bank.
The protesters claimed that they had been harassed for years for refusing to work according to certain directives that would break rules.
They demanded the resignation of all officials, especially those with strong alliances to the Awami League-led government.
The protest erupted following a significant political shift. Prime minister Sheikh Hasina resigned on Monday and fled the country, ending her 15-year rule amid an unprecedented student-led mass uprising against her authoritarian regime.
On Tuesday, Bangladesh president Mohammed Shahabuddin dissolved the parliament after a high-stakes meeting with key stakeholders, including the chiefs of the three armed forces, leaders of various political parties, civil society representatives, and leaders of the Student Movements Against Discrimination.
