The authorities on Thursday afternoon opened the entrance ramp of Dhaka Elevated Expressway in Mohakhali area in Dhaka after about a month.

At the ramp the toll is now collected manually as the toll booth there was torched during the mass uprising led by students.

The expressway’s Karwan Bazar exit ramp will remain closed now.

First Dhaka Elevated Expressway Company Limited manager for operations and maintenance Captain Hasib Hasan Khan said that the entrance ramp in Mohakhali area was opened to traffic at about 12:00pm on Thursday.

Earlier on July 18 and 19, some people vandalised and torched the expressway’s Banani toll booth and Mohakhali toll booth respectively during the recent student protests. The ramp in Karwan Bazar area was also damaged.

Capitan Hasib also said that the toll at the Mohakhali ramp would be collected manually now.

Since July 19, vehicular movement on the expressway remained halted which resumed on August 5, said the company officials.

The company started collecting toll from the vehicles using the expressway from August 11 while the Banani, Mohakhali and Karwan Bazar ramps remained closed.

The Banani ramp was opened on August 15.
