One person died in Fulgazi upazila, Feni and around 1,796,248 people have been affected by floods across six districts in Bangladesh.
This information was revealed in a report prepared by disaster management and relief ministry, which detailed the situation as of Thursday morning.
The report stated that weather agencies predict moderate to heavy rainfall in the next 48 hours in the northeastern part of the country and upstream areas. Water levels in the main rivers of the northeastern and eastern regions keep rising.
Since the flood situation began on Tuesday, six districts have so far been affected. The affected districts are Cumilla, Feni, Chattogram, Khagrachhari, Noakhali, and Moulvibazar where 43 upazilas were submerged.
A total of 189,663 families have been stranded by floodwaters in these six districts.
The report said that army and navy personnel have joined to rescue people trapped in flood-affected regions.
It said 160 army personnel and 40 salvage vessels, 71 Navy personnel and eight salvage vessels were sent to the flood-hit areas.
In the current flood situation, leaves of officials and employees of the offices and agencies under the Department of Posts and Telecommunications in Feni, Cumilla and other areas have been cancelled to maintain constant contact with the people and repair the damaged towers, said posts and telecommunications ministry.
