A Dhaka court on Thursday granted four-day remand each for journalist couple Farzana Rupa and Shakil Ahmed in a case filed over the killing of a garment worker in the capital’s Uttara during the July-August student protests.
The duo worked in senior positions at Ekattor Television, but were sacked on 8 August, in the wake of ouster of Awami League government by student-led protests.
Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Ahmed Humayun Kabir placed the duo on remand after the investigating officer of the case asked for 10-day remands for each.
A day earlier, immigration officials detained the couple at Dhaka international airport as they tried to leave the country, and later handed them over to the Detective Branch of police.
On 8 August, the Ekattor Media Limited management team sacked Ekattor Television Head of News Shakil Ahmed and Principal Correspondent Farzana Rupa.
