Train communication between Sylhet and the rest of Bangladesh resumed after two days on Saturday.

Earlier Bangladesh Railway on Thursday cancelled journeys of 26 trains fully and five others’ partially connecting Chattogram and Sylhet with different destinations of Bangladesh, following the bending of rail tracks and washout of stones due to flood.

Rail tracks bent in Feni, Chattogram, and Cox’s Bazar districts while tracks were submerged in Habiganj district.

A railway press release issued on Saturday said that from Saturday four trains — Joyantika Express, Kalni Express, Upaban Express and Surma Mail started running on Dhaka-Sylhet route.

Train communication between Chattogram and the rest of the country remained suspended.

The onrush of water rising to 10 feet swept scores of villages in eastern, southeastern, and northeastern Bangladesh on Friday as deadly flash flooding continued for the fourth straight day, inflicting catastrophic damage.

The furious flash flood with rapid currents washed away parts of major flood protection embankments in Cumilla and Chattogram, destroying what came in its way—homes, trees, bridges, agricultural farms, and killing people and animals.
