Mirajul fires Bangladesh to their maiden SAFF U-20 title

Forward Mirajul Islam scored a brace as Bangladesh clinched their maiden SAFF Under-20 Championship title with a crushing 4-1 win over hosts Nepal in the final at the ANFA Complex in Lalitpur on Wednesday.

Bangladesh went to the break with a 1-0 lead with Mirajul scoring in the stoppage time of the first half before he doubled the margin in the 54th minute.

Rabby Hossen Rahul and Piash Ahmmed Nova scored the other two goals for the winners in the 70th minute and deep into stoppage time.

For two-time champions Nepal, forward Samir Tamang pulled one goal back in the 80th minute.

The three time runners-up Bangladesh advanced to final after a 4-3 on penalties over three-time champions India in the semi-final while Nepal beat Bhutan 4-1 also in tie-breaker in the other semi-final.

Bangladesh started their campaign with a 2-0 win over Sri Lanka before losing to Nepal 2-1 to place group runners-up in the three-team Group A.
