An unidentified group of people set fire to a warehouse of a readymade garment (RMG) factory in the Bhabanipur area of Gazipur in Bangladesh on Wednesday afternoon.
The fire broke out at the warehouse of Big Boss garment factory around 1:00pm on Wednesday, confirmed Tasharaf Hossain, station master of the Kashimpur Fire Service and Civil Defence (FSCD) in Gazipur.
When two firefighting units arrived at the scene, they were attacked by angry workers and were forced to return to the station. The workers of the RMG factory attempted to control the fire using their own equipment, he said.
Earlier in the day, workers from Beximco Group, located next to Big Boss, had been staging a demonstration demanding payment of salary arrears.
The station master added that it was unclear who was responsible for setting the fire.
