Workers of a garment factory in Gazipur’s Tongi blocked Dhaka-Mymensingh Highway on Tuesday morning and staged a demonstration demanding due wages.
The incident caused severe traffic jam on both sides of the highway, bringing commute to a standstill.
The workers were demanding three months of due wages from the Khapara Season Dress Limited garment factory in Tongi. The procession began in front of the factory and blocked the Dhaka-Mymensingh Highway in Ershadnagar area.
Assistant police superintendent of the Industrial Police, Mosharraf Hossain, said that discussions were ongoing with the factory authorities.
‘Efforts are being made to convince the workers to clear the road and restore normal vehicle movement,’ he added.
