The metro rail services on the Agargaon-Motijheel section remained suspended since 9:40am on Wednesday due to the ‘technical glitch’ of the track.
Officials of Dhaka Mass Transit Company Limited said that the services would be resumed by 1:00pm.
The services of metro trains are continuing on the Uttara-Agaragaon section as usual.
The passengers suffered due to the disruptions in the services on the 20.1-kilometre-long Uttara–Motijheel route.
Dhaka Mass Transit Company Limited managing director Md Abdur Rouf told New Age that in Farmgate area one of the springs between the floor of the track and sleeper went loose.
‘We stopped the services immediately when we noticed and started repairing with the spare parts,’ he said.
He also said that they would investigate the reasons behind the incident.
‘It will take around two more hours to resume the services,’ the managing director said at about 11:00am.
Services of metro rail are being disrupted frequently this year.
The services of metro rail remained suspended for an hour on July 7 as electricity supply was suspended.
On May 27, the metro rail service was disrupted throughout the day due to technical glitches caused by the cyclone Remal.
On May 25, just two days ago, the services of metro rail remained suspended for about one hour and a half as the metro rail’s signalling system did not work properly due to problems with the electricity connection.
The DMTCL later posted an apology in this regard on its Facebook page.
On March 31, the services of metro rail remained suspended for about two hours due to a thunderstorm and falling plastic litter on the overhead catenary.
On March 19, metro rail services were suspended for about half an hour as some passengers allegedly blocked the doors of some compartments.
The services were suspended for about an hour on February 17 as an automatic door of a metro train was not opening at the Pallabi station.
On February 14, a stray kite falling on the power cable kept the metro rail services on hold for about an hour.
On February 4, the services of metro rail suspended for about an hour due to some technical glitches.
In 2023, the services of metro rail remained suspended three times on August 7, 9 and 21 mainly due to technical glitches and operational reasons.
The Mass Rapid Transit Line-6 project, popularly known as the metro rail, on the 11.73-kilometre-long Uttara–Agargaon section was launched on December 28, 2022.
On November 4, 2023, the service from Agargaon to Motijheel was inaugurated.
The entire MRT Line-6 project on the 21.26-kilometre-long Uttara-Kamalapur route is scheduled to be inaugurated in December 2025.
