A Rajbari court has ordered Alamgir Sheikh Titu, former mayor of Rajbari Municipality, to jail in connection with a case filed for attacking the recent Anti-Discrimination Student Movement in the area.
Rajbari Senior Judicial Magistrate Judge Md Sumon Hossain passed the order after police presented Alamgir before the court on Thursday.
Acting on a tip-off, a team of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB-10) conducted a raid in Dhaleshwari Toll Plaza area of Dhaka’s South Keraniganj around 8 pm on Wednesday and arrested Alamgir.
Later, he was handed over to Rajbari police.
Alamgir, who was previously involved in Awami League politics, was expelled from the party after running as an independent candidate in the last mayoral election of the municipality.
He is now implicated in the case filed on 30 August with Rajbari Sadar Police Station for the attack on students during the anti-discrimination protests.
In addition, Alamgir faces multiple accusations, including extortion, tender manipulation, and corruption in different parts in Rajbari.
The case was filed by Rajib Molla, a student of Rajbari Government College and a member of the anti-discrimination movement.
