The government has appointed Dr Mobasser Monem, a Professor of Governance and Public Management at the University of Dhaka, as the new Chairman of the Bangladesh Public Service Commission (BPSC).
In a notification issued on Wednesday by the Ministry of Public Administration, it was stated that President Mohammed Shahabuddin made the appointment under the powers vested in him by Article 138 (1) of the Constitution.
Along with Professor Monem, four others have been appointed as members of the BPSC.
The four members are– Md Suzayet Ullah, Dr Md Nazmul Amin Majumder, Dr Md Aminul Islam and Dr Nurul Qadir.
According to the notification, Professor Monem and other members will serve for five years from the date they assume office or until they reach the age of 65, whichever comes first.
The previous BPSC Chairman, Sohrab Hossain, along with 12 members of the commission, resigned on Tuesday, paving the way for the new leadership.
