A total of 142 Bangladeshi nationals, who returned from Italy, which recorded the highest number of coronavirus cases in Europe, have been quarantined at Ashkona Hajj camp in the capital.
Earlier, an Emirates flight carrying the evacuees from Rome arrived in Dhaka’s Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport via Dubai on Saturday, according Dr Shahriar Sajjat, a physician at the airport’s health centre.
They will be kept under quarantine at the Ashkona Hajj Camp near the airport for 14 days — the incubation period of the virus, he said.
Death toll from coronavirus or COVID-19 reached 5,436 globally as of Saturday. Besides, 145,810 new cases were reported from around the world, according to worldometer.
Of them, 67,843 are currently infected while 72,531 patients have recovered.
