Five children die from measles in Rangamati amid coronavirus crisis

Five children have died from measles in remote villages of Baghaichhari Upazila in the hills district of Rangamati in past week amid fatal coronavirus outbreak across the world, according to the district Health Department.

Around 100 other children have been infected by the disease in three villages under 7 No ward of Sajek union.

Among the deceased, three children died on March 15, 16 and 17 while two  on February 26 and 29, said Civil Surgeon Bipash Khisa on Friday.

The deceased were identified as Sagorika Tripura, 11, Sujon Kumar, 9, Kohen Tripura, 10, Bidhan Tripura, 12, and Rojina Tripura, 8.

The Civil Surgeon said two medical teams of the Health Department are now providing medical services to the affected children at the three villages.

Chairman of Sajek union Nelson Chakma Nayan said “We had informed the authorities when we had come to know about the outbreak. A medical team reached the spot to provide treatment to the ailing people.”
