Bangladesh Nationalist Party on Saturday proposed the government to announce a Tk 87,000 crore incentive package targeting different classes to tackle and overcome the economic crisis due to the coronavirus situation.

The party secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir made the proposal on behalf of the party in a press conference at the party chairperson’s office in the capital’s Gulshan.

The present coronavirus crisis is not only risky for human life but also it will bring serious catastrophe to the country’s economy and the common and working-class people would be worst affected due to the crisis, he said.

‘For this, we are proposing the government to take some short term, mid, and long term proposals. We hope that the government will consider the proposals and implement them,’ he said.

He said that the government had already taken some initiatives and that his party thought that the initiatives were not adequate to tackle and overcome the crisis.

‘For this, we demand announcement of incentive package of three per cent of Gross Domestic Product worth Tk 87,000 crore,’ he said.

He said that though the government had said that a total of 61 people infected and six of them died, many did not believe the government’s information.
