Three people, including a pregnant woman and two children, were killed and five others injured in an explosion in in Narayanganj’s Bandar upazila on Friday morning.

The deceased were identified as Masnun (8), and Jisan (12), sons of Khorshed Alam and Laboni Aktar (28), wife of Humayun Kabir.

Injured are Nabila, Tamanna, Shahid, Rekmot Sheikh and Rubel.

Confirming the news, Abdullah Al Arefin, assistant director of Narayanganj Fire Service and Civil Defence, said the septic tank under the five-storey building exploded around 6am due to a lack of maintenance.

The two children were sleeping in a room on the ground floor above the septic tank. The room’s walls collapsed on the duo following the explosion and they died on spot, Abdullah added.

In the meantime, the tin-shed house next to the building, where the pregnant woman lived, also collapsed and injured her severely.

Locals took Laboni to Dhaka Medical College Hospital where the doctors declared her dead.

Two of the injured were taken to DMCH while others admitted to the Bandar Upazila Health Complex for treatment.
