A man, accused of rape and murder of 7-year-old girl Chadni, was killed in a gunfight  with the members of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB)  in Madhumita area in  Tongi  of Gazipur on Friday morning.

The deceased was identified as Sufian,21, prime accused in a case filed over killing minor girl Chandni after rape.

Abdullah Al Mamun, commanding officer of Rab-1 Porabari camp, said the elite force members arrested one Niloy, friend of Sufian, from Madhumita Rail gate area on May 17 and after the confessional statement of Niloy, the elite force members conducted a drive to arrest Sufian on Thursday night .

When the Rab team went to the area, the criminals opened fire on them, forcing them to fire back that triggered the gunfight.

At one stage, Sufian was caught in the line of fire and died on the spot while the others managed to flee the scene.

Rab sent the body to Shaheed Tajuddin Medical College and Hospital morgue for autopsy.

One firearm and a bullet were recovered from the spot.

On May 16, police recovered the body of  Chandni from the Madhumita Railgate area in Tongi.
