A suspected serial child rapist was killed in a reported gunfight with police at Bayazid area of Chattogram city early Thursday.

The deceased was identified as Md Belal Hossen (40), a CNG-run auto rickshaw driver.

The gunfight took place at Shanti Nagar-Samabay residential area when police went there to arrest the culprit. But sensing the presence of police, Belals cohorts opened fire on the law enforcers. Police retaliated, triggering a gunfight,” Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC) (North) Ashikur Rahman of CMP.

Later, police recovered the bullet-hit body of Belal from the spot and sent to hospital were doctor declared him dead, he said.

Police also recovered a light gun, eight rounds of cartridges and 500 yaba pills from the spot, he added.

There were eight cases filed with Bayezid Bostami and two cases with Akbar Shah police stations against Belal for raping children.
