Criminal Investigation Department (CID) of police arrested a man on charges of raping his 16 years old daughter in Natore on Tuesday.
The arrestee was identified as Shariful Islam, a so-called “saint”, hailing from Barai village in Natore.
Sheikh Nazmul Alam, deputy inspector general of CID, confirmed the matter on Wednesday at a press briefing at CID’s headquarters in Dhaka.
A team of CID arrested accused Shariful from Manikgangj during a drive on Tuesday, he added.
As per Shariful’s confession his wife left him after he became the so-called “saint” two years ago. Their daughter then went to her grandmother’s house.
Earlier in July, the accused tricked his daughter to his Baraigram home and started assaulting her physically. He kept the girl confined and did not allow anyone to meet and talk to her. He later raped the girl repeatedly.
The survivor teen somehow contacted her grandmother, who along with the victim’s mother recovered her.
Shariful went into hiding after the family filed a case with Baraigram Police Station in Natore.
In primary interrogation, the accused admitted of raping his daughter frequently, CID officials added.
