A variant of the coronavirus, similar to that recently found in the UK, was detected in Bangladesh in early November, according to the experts.
According to the Bangladesh Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (BCSIR), in early November, BCSIR sequenced the genomes of five samples of coronavirus. Among the five, one new strain was almost similar to the one found in the United Kingdom, though it was not 100 percent same.
“BCSIR has already started working on this and is trying to find out the identity and address of the carriers of the virus, Dr Selim Khan”, principle scientific officer of the BCSIR, said.
The new variant of the coronavirus was originated in the United Kingdom sometime in September.
