The government is mulling to extend the closure of all educational institutions across the country again as the ongoing coronavirus situation is yet to tamed down.

State Minister for Primary and Mass Education Md Zakir Hossain made the disclosure at a press briefing on Saturday (January 9).

Zakir Hossain said, “The closure of all educational institutions may be extended as the coronavirus situation is still prevailing in the country. Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will take a final decision on the issue.”
“Our online education activities of all educational institutions will continue despite the extension of the closure,” the state minister for primary and mass education said.

Professor Dr Syed Md Golam Faruk, director general of Secondary and Higher Education Directorate, said, “A situation has not been created yet to reopen educational institutions due to coronavirus. So, considering the situation, closure of the educational institutions may be extended again after January 16.”

The country’s educational institutions have been closed since March 17 due to the Covid-19 outbreak.

Since then, the shutdown has been extended several times, with the latest one issued on December 18 last year.

To curb the spread of Covid-19, the government canceled this year’s Primary Education Completion (PEC), JSC, HSC and their equivalent examinations due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
