Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will inaugurate the country’s vaccination drive against the coronavirus through video conferencing on January 27.

Health Secretary Abdul Mannan disclosed the information at a programme at Kidney Hospital in the capital on Saturday morning.

A nurse will receive vaccine on the day at Kurmitola General Hospital, said the secretary.
The premier will likely virtually interact with health workers on the day of the launch of the vaccine drive, sources said.

Bangladesh on Thursday received 20 lakh doses of the Oxford-AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccine as gift from India, with the country planning to begin its mass vaccination early February.

The country is expected to get 50 lakh doses of the Oxford-AstraZeneca vaccine manufactured by the Serum Institute of India by January 25 under a deal on buying three crore doses from the Serum through its local vendor Beximco Pharma.
