Bangladesh will go into lockdown for one week with effect from Monday following surge in Covid-19 infection cases.
Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader confirmed the government’s decision to the journalist.
Like other parts of the globe, Bangladesh is hard hit by the new variant of the coronavirus affecting the public life.
The government led by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has been taking effective and strategic steps to control the virus and mitigate its impact.
As part of the strategy, the government has decided to enforce lockdown in various parts of the country, with special emphasis on corona vulnerable districts.
However, the mills and industries remain out of the ambit of the lockdown to render the cycle of economy unaffected. Those will run with strict adherence to social distancing and other health regulations.
State Minister for Public Administration Farhad Hossain has urged countrymen to follow lockdown strictly.
He said the ministry will issue a circular in this regard today.
