Education Minister Dr Dipu Moni has suggested parents not to keep their children confined to select books enumerated in the syllabus.
Rather, the students should be imparted knowledge on art, culture, science and history, she added.
She was addressing a virtual programme organised by the Meherpur district administration marking distribution of a publication on “Soto Tothye Jatir Pita”—a book pregnant with the information as to Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.
Children are the one to have borne the brunt of the Covid pandemic which wreaked havoc on socioeconomic life across the globe.
Bangladesh government has withheld academic activities with physical participation of the students and teachers since the country’s first detection of the dreaded virus last year.
The education minister has emerged with important suggestion to break the cycle of monotony of the students who are bored at home.
To peruse a bright career requires vast study on the part of the students, she said, adding that the guardians should inspire their kids to read travel stories, ICT and science books.
“Many of the successful persons in the world did not have higher degrees, but they were enlightened by reading books going beyond syllabus.”
Since inception, Awami League government led by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has been working relentlessly to revamp education sector in the light of liberation principles, she said.
The government is placing importance on vocational and technical education to generate skilled manpower catering to the global competition, she added.
Dr Dipu Moni also stressed the lessons which inculcate in the children the sense honesty, sincerity, humanity and patriotism.
Meherpur Deputy Commissioner Dr Mansur Alam Khan presided over the programme.
