India recorded 4,01,078 new coronavirus cases in 24 hours taking the overall caseload to 2,18,92,676, according to data from the Union Health Ministry.
The country’s active COVID-19 cases stand at 37,23,446.
With 4,187 deaths in 24 hours, the total death toll is 2,38,270. This is the highest death toll recorded in a single day since the pandemic started.
This is the first time that the death toll crossed the 4000-mark. In the 24 hours, 3,18,609 recovered, taking the number of recoveries to 1,79,30,960.
Maharashtra, Delhi, Kerala, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, and Andhra Pradesh remain the worst affected states by the pandemic, The Statesman reported.
According to government data, as many as 16,73,46,544 people have been vaccinated.
