Health and Family Welfare Minister Zahid Maleque has said all students of public-private universities will be vaccinated in order to check Covid-19 infection.
The minister said this after a cabinet meeting on Monday with Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina in the chair. The premier joined the event from Ganabhaban.
The health minister said, “We have discussed in the cabinet meeting that the Covid-19 infection and deaths are increasing in the bordering districts. I informed the premier about it. She (premier) said the lockdown has been extended till June 6. She also asked the cabinet secretary to take more steps in this regard. The premier also stressed the need for more campaign.”
Zahid Maleque said, “Vaccine import from China is under process and necessary arrangement will be made. After agreement, it is expected that we will get 50 lakh doses of vaccine in June, 50 lakh in July and 50 lakh in August.
“At the first stage of getting vaccine, we will take initiative to vaccinate our university students on priority basis. We are vaccinating teachers. It is our desire to vaccinate students so that they can start their studies normally.”
