8 Jammat men get jail till death for killing farmer in Gaibandha

A Gaibandha court on Thursday sentenced eight Jammat activists to jail until death for killing a farmer named Hasan Ali in Palashbari upazila of Gaibandha in 1999.
Judge of Gaibandha District and Sessions Judge Court Dilip Kumar Bhowmik handed down the verdict in presence of six accused this noon.
The convicts are identified as Abul Kawsar, Gaibandha District Jamaat’s former organizing secretary and former Palashbari Upazila Parishad Chairman, Nazrul Islam Lebu (current district Surah member of Jamaat), Jamaat leaders Abdur Rauf, Shahjalal, Golam Mostafa, Shah Alam, Farooq, Mizanur Rahman Mizan and Abu Taleb.
The court also acquitted eight other accused in the case as the prosecution failed to produce enough evidence against them.
