Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives (LGRD) Minister Md Tajul Islam has said that they will take decision within a day or two about Zahangir Alam whether can remain mayor of Gazipur City Corporation.

The minister came up with the comment while talking to reporters after Cabinet meeting at the Secretariat on Monday afternoon.

“We are examining the law to take decision in this regard),” he said.

Zahangir, general secretary of Gazipur city Awami League, was stripped of the party post and also removed from the primary membership of the party on Friday for his derogatory remarks on Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and martyred freedom fighters.

After the meeting of Awami League Central Working Committee (ALCWC), party general secretary Obaidul Quader said legal action will be taken against the GCC mayor.
