Ecommerce platform Evaly has been disconnected from Amazon server due to nonpayment issues amid uncertainties of refunding of customers and merchants’ money.

The platform no longer exists online as the international Internet vendor unlinked the website from its server, sources related with the matter confirmed Daily Sun.

The commerce ministry officials, however, declined to make comments on this and refunding issue of Evaly.

High Court recently formed a specialised board led by Justice AHM Shamsuddin Choudhury Manik, a retired judge of Supreme Court, to operate the company.

The board has been working to resume operations of the scam-hit company since October last year.

“We want to save the company from liquidation. However, the resources are limited. There is only Tk 2.35 crore in Evaly’s bank account,” said Justice Manik who has been made the company’s chairman.

“This amount is like a drop of water in the ocean as the company has billions of taka in liabilities to customers and merchants,” Justice Manik told the Daily Sun.

Justice Manik, the current Evaly chairman, informed that the board is trying to retrieve website through local hosting as Amazon unlinked server for due payments.

Netherlands-based audit agency KPMG is designated for conducting audit on the financial translations of the ecommerce platform Evaly.

“The beginning of audit may take nearly a month. The decision on refunding to customer will take after the audit. It will take a long time indeed,” Evaly chairman added responding to a query.

He informed that the present board is burgeoning with the audit agency KPMG as the company now runs with limited resources.

KPMG began operations in present form when Peat Marwick International and Klynveld Main Goerdeler merged in 1987.

The present board of Evaly received 14 vehicles from the fleet of 25 cars after taking charge.

“We have planned to bring three cars in auction. And we will try to increase earnings through renting the remaining cars,” Justice Manik said.

There are 15 employees at Evaly head offices and 15 security personals at Savar warehouse.

“To manage the workforces, the company needs Tk 10 lakh a month,” he said.

The Evaly board is requesting Bangladesh Bank to scan fund of former Evaly managing director Mohammad Russel and chairperson Shamima Nasrin so it can be adjusted in the Evaly account.

Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) arrested Russel and Nasrin in September last year on charges of frauds as customers filed lawsuits against them.

At a high level meeting at the ICT Division on Wednesday, the government introduced a digital ID system to strengthen monitoring over ecommerce operations.
