Supreme Court Bar Association polls begin

The voting in a two-day election of Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA) for the year 2022-2023 began on Tuesday morning.

The voting started at 10:00am at SCBA building, which will continue till 5:00pm with a one-hour lunch and prayer break.

A total of 8,623 members of SCBA are eligible to cast their ballots in the polls to elect fourteen office bearers. Fifty-one booths have been installed to cast the ballots.

 

A seven-member election sub-committee led by senior advocate AY Moshiujjaman is conducting the polls.

Former additional attorney general Md Momtaz Uddin Fakir and Advocate Md Abdun Nur Dulal are vying for the posts of president and secretary from the pro-independence White Panel respectively.

Advocate Mohammad Hossain and Advocate Shahidul Islam are contesting for the two posts of vice-president, Advocate Md Iqbal Karim for treasurer; Advocate Harunur Rashid and Barrister Hamidur Mejbah are vying for the two posts of assistant secretary.

Advocate Fatema Begum Rina, Advocate Hasan Tarik, Advocate Moniruzzaman Rana, Advocate Munmun Nahar, Advocate Shaifik Raihan Shaon, Advocate Subroto Kumar Kundu and Advocate Shahdat Hossain Razib are contesting for the seven posts of executive committee members from the White Panel.

Md Bodruddoza (Badal) and incumbent secretary Md Ruhul Quddus (Kazal) are vying for the posts of president and secretary from the pro-BNP Blue Panel respectively.

Advocate Md Monir Hossain and Advocate Md Asrarul Haque are contesting for the two posts of vice-president, Advocate Mohammad Kamal Hossain for treasurer; Advocate Mahfuz Bin Yusuf and Mohammad Mahbubur Rahman Khan are vying for the two posts of assistant secretary.

 

Advocate Fatima Akter, Advocate Kamrul Islam, Advocate Mahdin Chowdhury, Advocate Md Anwarul Islam, Advocate Md Golam Akter Zakir, Advocate Md Monjurul Alam, and Md Mostafa Kamal are contesting for the seven posts of executive committee members from the Blue Panel.

Apart from these, there are many independent candidates.
