Court issues order to send Haji Salim to jail

A Dhaka court on Sunday issued an order to send Awami League MP Haji Selim to jail in a corruption case as he surrendered before the court and sought bail.

Haji Salim filed a petition in the court of Judge Shahidul Islam of Dhaka Special Judge’s Court-6 around 2pm today seeking bail on any condition.

Haji Salim’s lawyer Pran Nath mentioned in his petition that Haji Salim has been speechless for a long time due to bleeding in the brain during open heart surgery in 2016. He has received treatment at home and abroad. If he stays in jail, any kind of accident might be happened for lack of proper treatment, the lawyer added. 

The case document from the High Court reached the court of Judge Shahidul Islam of Dhaka Special Judge’s Court-7 on April 25 at around 3 pm. The judgment documents were sent from the concerned bench of the High Court on that day.

Earlier, the High Court upheld the sentence of 10 years imprisonment and a fine of Tk 10 lakh given to Haji Salim in a judicial (lower) court.

On February 10, he was sentenced to 10 years in prison in the graft case.
