Babul Akter sues six PBI officials for torturing him in custody

Former police superintendent Babul Akter, who was in jail in the case filed by him over the murder of his wife Mahmuda Khanam Mitu in 2016, on Thursday filed a case against the six officials of Police Bureau of Investigation, including its chief Banaj Kumar Majumder.

Babul Akter filed the case with the court of Chattogram metropolitan session judge Begum Jebunnesa on Thursday afternoon, Babul’s lawyer Golam Mawla Murad told New Age.

The court kept the complaint and fixed September 19, 2022 for an order, he said.

The other accused are PBI Chattogram district unit SP Nazmul Hasan, Chattogram metro unit SP Naima Sultana, PBI former inspector Santosh Kumar Chakma and AKM Mohiuddin Salim and inspector Kazi Enayet Kabir.

Babul, in the case statement, said that he was tortured by the accused when he was in PBI custody in May, 2021.

Mitu was stabbed and shot to death on June 5, 2016, while she was walking her son to his school bus stop at the Port City’s GEC Intersection.

PBI submitted final report on May 12, 2021, in the case filed by Babul Akter in 2016, mentioning him as the ‘mastermind’ of the murder as the investigators found ‘Babul Akter’s involvement in Mitu murder’ after five years of investigation.

Babul Akter turned into as the prime accused from the plaintiff in wife’s murder case as Mitu’s father Mosharaf Hossain filed a fresh case on May 12, 2021 over the murder.

PBI on January 25, 2022 submitted a final report in the case filed by Mitu’s father Mosharaf Hossain.

However, later PBI showed Babul Akter arrested in the case filed by him over the murder.
