2 more women burned while warming in fire die at RMCH

Two more women who suffered burn injuries while warming themselves from cold in fire-lit died at the Rangpur Medical College Hospital (RMCH) early Thursday.

The deceased were identified as Monoara Begum, 90, wife of Sakir Uddin, hailing from Kotarpara area in Rangpur district and Monoara Begum, 85, wife of Manik Mia, from Station Alamnagar area in the same district.

Confirming the news, assistant Professor Dr M A Hamid, head of the Department of Burn and Plastic Surgery at the RMCH, said that the victims were admitted to the hospital on January 4 but they succumbed to their injuries this morning while undergoing treatment.

Currently, 30 people are undergoing treatment at the burn unit of the hospital, he said,

With the two fresh deaths, at least 9 people died at the burn unit of the RMCH in the last 15 days, Dr Hamid also said.
