Marking the upcoming Eid-ul-Azha, the second largest festival of Muslims after Eid-ul-Fitr, the train movement with homebound people began this morning.
The journey of Eid holidaymakers started with the operation of Dhumketu Express at 6:00am today in the capital.
On the first day of the journey of the homebound people for Eid, some 53 pairs of trains including, intercity and local, will go to different destinations.
Kamalapur Railway Station Manager Masud Sarwar disclosed this information.
According to railway sources, some 25 percent of the total seats will be sold without seats or standing tickets during the journey for Eid-ul-Azha of this year. Tickets can be purchased from Dhaka (Kamalapur), Dhaka Cantonment, Airport and Joydebpur railway stations. Only standing tickets can be bought from station counters on the day of departure.
For Eid journey of this year, around 29,000 tickets with seats of intercity trains from Dhaka have been sold every day.
In order to operate activity of Kamalapur Railway Station smoothly, three pairs of special trains will run from Dhaka Cantonment Station.
