The government has set the prices of eggs, potato and onion for the first time against the backdrop of exorbitant prices of the items in the local market.
Commerce minister Tipu Munshi on Thursday announced that the price of egg had been fixed at Tk 12 per piece in the retail level.
The commerce minister, at a press conference held at the commerce ministry, announced that the retail price of potato had been fixed at Tk 35-36 a kilogram while the price of local onion had been fixed at Tk 64-65 a kilogram.
Tipu Munshi said that the government had also decided to allow import of egg if the prices of egg did not come down in the market.
The minister also announced to reduce the price of packaged soybean oil to Tk169 per litre from Tk 174 per litre.
