Chief election commissioner Kazi Habibul Awal on Monday said that if any election officials’ behavior was found biased during the election or even before announcing the polls schedule, the commission would definitely take action.

‘Such decision has been taken for the sake of public trust and elections,’ the CEC said when talking to reporters at Nirbachan Bhaban.

He said that even before the announcement of the election schedule, if the officials concerned with the election created controversy, the EC would take action against them.

Stating that the EC was monitoring the voting environment, the CEC said, ‘I will not make any comment on whether the prime minister and others who are seeking votes can seek votes. After announcing the schedule we will see if anyone is violating the code of conduct.’

Regarding the letter to take action against the Jamalpur deputy commissioner, the CEC said that biased behavior was not expected from any government high official.

‘The EC has responsibilities in this regard as well. The Election Commission can write to the government if those who will conduct the election are found biased,’ he said, adding that this decision had been taken in the interest of people’s trust, in interest of the government, and in the interest of the Election Commission.
