A Dhaka metropolitan magistrate court on Wednesday placed main opposition Bangladesh Nationalist party standing committee member Mirza Abbas on a five-day remand in a violence case filed with Shahjahanpur police station.
Metropolitan magistrate Shafi Uddin passed the order after police produced Mirza Abbas before the court seeking on five-day remand for interrogation in the violence case.
Opposing the remand petition, defence lawyer Mohi Uddin Chowdhury filed a petition seeking his bail but the court rejected the plea after hearing.
Earlier, police arrested the opposition party leader on Tuesday night in Shahidbagh Mosque lane area near Shahjahanpur.
On October 29, sub- inspector Mustafizur Rahman filed the case against 49 leaders and activities of BNP, including Mirza Abbas, with the Shahjahanpur police station.
