The Detective Branch of Dhaka Metropolitan Police arrested two leaders of Juba Dal, the youth organisation of the main opposition Bangladesh Nationalist Party, for their suspected involvement in torching a bus and a police vehicle in the capital’s Mouchak and Shantinagar area during October 28 clashes between police and BNP activists.
The arrestees are Mohiuddin Hridoy, 36, and Md Almain Mahin, 33. They are members of Juba Dal Ramna thana unit, said Mishu Biswas, additional deputy commissioner of DB Ramna division on Sunday.
They torched a bus of Balaka Paribahan on Mouchak flyover and a police vehicle at Shantinagar on October 28, the police officer claimed.
DB said that the two accused were arrested from the capital’s Khilgaon in a raid on Saturday.
The DB officer said that the arrested ones confessed to them that they were involved in torching vehicles. ‘They said that they were ordered by Dhaka South unit Juba Dal member secretary Rabiul Islam Noyon.’
Rabiul is currently on the run and police are trying to nab him.
The ruling Awami League, the BNP, BNP’s allies in the ongoing one-point movement and Jamaat took to the streets on October 28 to show their strength ahead of the upcoming general election due in January next year.
Violent clashes broke out on the day leaving an opposition activist and police constable dead and over 1,000 injured.
