At least 512 people were killed and 793 more were injured in 517 road crashes in December 2023, said a Road Safety Foundation report, published on Thursday.
Of the crashes, involvement of motorcycles was the highest 41.19 per cent and the highest 39.25 per cent people were killed in these accidents.
In the month, daily on an average 16.51 people were killed in road crashes which was 15.56 in November.
During the period, 31 people were killed and 23 more were injured in 26 railway accidents, while 17 were killed, 14 more were injured and 11 remained missing in nine waterways accidents. Thirty-three cows also drowned in waterways accidents.
The report was prepared based on the reports published in nine national dailies, on seven online news portals and different electronic media, said a press release issued by the organisation.
Among the fatal victims, 201 were motorcyclists and their co-riders, 114 were pedestrians, 101 were passengers and transport workers of different three-wheeler vehicles, 30 were passengers and transport workers of locally modified vehicles (nasimon, karimon, bhatbhati, tomtom and Mahindra), 26 were transport workers and illegal passengers of trucks, pickup vans, tractors and trolleys, 16 were passengers and pullers of rickshaws, rickshaw vans and bicycles, 15 were passengers and drivers of cars, microbuses, jeeps and ambulances and nine were bus passengers.
