One missing as a ferry named Rajanigandha, along with nine vehicles, capsized near the terminal no 5 of Paturia Ferry Terminal on Wednesday morning.
The ferry on the Daulatdia-Paturia route capsized in the middle of the River Padma in Paturia of Manikganj.
The ferry was carrying seven small trucks and two large trucks. There was no passenger vehicle.
The ferry sank in the river at about 8:15am, said Anwarul Islam, warehouse inspector of Fire Service and Civil Defence.
On information, divers from the local fire service rushed to the spot.
‘So far around 20 people have been rescued,’ said Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Corporation’s Aricha office deputy general manager Shah Muhammad Khaled Newaj.
The second driver of the ferry, Humayun Kabir, 39, remained missing since the accident.
The reason behind the ferry capsize could not be known immediately.
